Core Mandate of CHAG Institutional Review Board
The IRB is a committee of scientists, non-scientists and community members. At CHAG, the IRB review research proposals to protect the rights and welfare of human research subjects who participate in research activities conducted under the auspices of the organization.
The CHAG IRB shall:
1. Provide independent, competent and timely review of the ethics and methods of proposed research studies before their commencement and regularly monitor on-going studies.
2. Be responsible for reviewing various field and clinical trials involving the use of human beings, ranging from local data-gathering protocols to clinical trials. It will therefore ensure that research is conducted ethically in compliance with established standards or guidelines. The CHAGIRB will suspend all on-going research without clearance until the necessary steps have been followed by the investigator (s) to obtain clearance.
Ethical Clearance Application Procedure
1. Download the respective forms from the Researcher and Students pages.
2. Read all instructions on the form and provide the needed information.
3. A soft copy of the protocol should be first submitted to CHAG IRB for pre-review by the IRB Administrator before printing.
4. After the preview you will be required to submit 9 hardcopies to the CHAG Institutional Review Board (IRB) for review.
Ethical Clearance Application Procedure
- Letters (Application for Ethical Clearance Letter, Introduction Letter from your Institution).
- Study Proposal (Abstract/Executive Summary, Introduction/Rationale, Literature Review, General Aim and Specific Objectives, Methodology, Ethical Considerations, Expected Outcomes/Results, References, Work Plan, Budget and Budget Justification).
- Consent Form, Assent Form, Parental Consent Form (where applicable)
- Data Collection Instruments (i.e. Interview Guide, Questionnaire, etc.)
- Curriculum Vitae of Study Investigator(s) / Supervisor(s).
- Any other documents that support the application.
